Case of the Mondays

Posted by Nicholas Fuchs on February 1, 2010 at 3:38 PM Comments comments (0)

As some may know, I have taken off Mondays thru April to hang out with Cole and to allow Grandma Chris some relief.  Here is how my first day went...

Our day started off with a great big throw up. While on the changing table, Cole blew up like Old Faithful and puked all over the place. I initially hadn't planned to give him a bath until later, but the puking episode negated my plan.  Cole did great in the tub. He didn't cry or make a peep. I now believe it was because he knew how pointless that bath was going to be, and the joke was on me.

What seemed like minutes out of the tub, in his nice new outfit, Cole puked again. Not as bad as the first, but enough to require a change. Luckily, the "poop on the onesie" incident happened before I had a chance to change him. That saved an outfit. I will spare you the details.

As I undertook putting on another outfit for the day, I realized just how much having a baby must be like playing with dolls. Cole typically goes through a couple outfits during the day and then a couple sets of pajamas throughout the night. I try to have Cole do some stuff (e.g. play with a ball,  hold a fake weapon, etc.), so he is more like an action figure than a doll. It makes things a little more manly for me. With that said, I did enjoy putting his second outfit together (see picture below). I even put some little shoes on him. (He tied them himself, not bad for a ginger baby.)

Anyway, the day went pretty well overall. I went through three shirts myself, but Cole is alive and well.

Money Money Money

Thanks for my first checkbook Grandpa and Grandma Stear. I already have more money than my mom and dad.

He Pooped!

Our first baby disaster is over (and I can't say I handled it well). After a change of formula, poor Cole couldn't poop to save his life. He spent three long days being uncomfortable and turning red from a push every once in awhile; a push that had no results.

Luckily I was at work when Kristin had to insert (yikes) the first suppository, which I heard he forcibly shot back out at her. Sadly, I got home from work and we gave it another try. Typically getting home from work is the best part of my day. Kristin did the dirty work as I tried to console Cole. Cole couldn't help but try to push the suppository out. He even tried to defend himself by spraying pee all over the place. It was a disaster and since the suppository did not want to stay put, we went to mixing some prune juice with the formula. We even took a walk around the neighborhood hoping to bounce a poo from the little man...no such luck.

At about 3:00 a.m., all on his own, Cole finally gave birth to an ugly little turd. It was about as long as he is tall and harder than a rock. The entire Fuchs family was very happy and is looking forward to some easier days ahead.

Obviously no pictures are needed with this entry.

Room Remodel #1

Well, Cole's room has already undergone some remodeling (surprise surprise, it was Kristin's idea.)

Before

After

Yep, just a change in the letters. It may not look like much, but those letters are a horrible invention and much harder to hang then one would think. Plus, I had to patch and paint, which is always a pain.

I will give Kristin props on her mobile. She made it from scratch and it turned out great. We'll find out tonight if Cole likes it.

The Grandpas

Nick and I went to a movie while both sets of Grandparents visited and babysat.?Cole was a bit fussy so the Grandpas put on a two man concert to calm the little man. Thanks to the Grandmas for snapping the priceless photos of the bromance between Gregg and John.

Perspective

Cole had his 4 week check up last Monday. He is 10 lbs 7 ounces and 22 inches, which is the 75th percentile for both. Everything else is going well. More good news is that his toes are not webbed, his nose is of normal size and his hair is concentrated on his head. We have been commenting on what a big boy he is becoming and how we have forgotten how tiny he once was...illustrated by these pictures. He looks like such a wise old man, sitting on the couch all alone. Until you see the size of the couch and realize he really is a tiny peanut.

Heartbreak

Here Nick and Cole are all smiles before the Packers crushing loss on Sunday. Cole watched the game with his Grandma DJ and Grandpa Gregg while we went to a bar and watched the game with friends.  Good thing he was not present to witness his father's litany of swears and then tears.

Happy New Year

Cole celebrated his first New Year's at the High's and we are proud to say he made it out past midnight. Although he is not a big fan of Ryan Seacrest, he was very enthusiastic about ringing in the new year. I thought the birthday suit with a 2010 sash was a bit much, but oh well, that's what he insisted he wear. (Thanks to Grandma DJ for the sash). It was only a little skimpier than J-Lo's New Year's Eve outfit.

New Visitors

Cole had some new visitors today. Michelle came with her son, Sean (almost nine months old). I think there may be a future friendship there. Emily also stopped by and later in the afternoon the Hamiltons and Hoods met Cole for the first time. Crissy was a little hesitant to hold Cole, but managed to do so with some friendly encouragement. Brett and Cole hit it off right away, as they act the same age. Bella got a little jealous, but we let her in the family photo and she was happy. I'll post the pic once Steve emails it to me.
